Miss Kittin, a.k.a. Caroline Herve is still causing a controversy in 2002 with the lyrics for the songs that she wrote a while ago. She began her music career as a DJ, spinning in France, and met Michael Amato. They published a song called "Frank Sinatra" and a cover of "Sweet Dreams." Whenever they played, she would perform dressed like a nurse. She became known for the lyrics of the song, which mentioned that Frank Sinatra had died and have been making headlines in a lot of publications.

Her songs are very sensual, and her mixture of surreal and worldly lyrics, with a techno sound that was inspired by an electronica of the eighties, earned her a popularity and a following in the techno circles.

She is currently trying to run away from the media. We interviewed Caroline Herve before her trip to the States.

Interview by Mauricio Saravia

ARTIST INTERIVIEWS: Caroline, wow did Miss Kittin And the Hacker started?

CH: We started while people asked me for a track for a compilation. He was the only one I knew who had machines and such a haircut.

AI: "First Album" was so controversial, with the lyrics of "Frank Sinatra" the cover of "Sweet Dreams" and other songs. Can you tell us about the inspiration for the sensual lyrics in the album?

CH: Sensual... It´s always the same, always because of one song written four years ago... Well, my inspiration is everywhere around, in television, films, friends, dreams, stupid people, books, etcetera.

AI: What was it like to work with Felix Da Housecat?

CH: Normal, just two cats together eating croquettes: funny, boring, slow, fast... I don´t know, it was cool to know him more than the image he got.

AI: Will you continue to spin, apart from performing with Miss Kittin and the Hacker?

CH: DJing is my job, my passion, the best thing I know to do, more than writing lyrics and singing. Also I can stay in the world I am from, comparing to the production which bring us into hype things pretty surreal.

AI: What are you working on right now?

CH: Trying to find some time for myself, getting away from journalists.

"DJing is my job, my passion,
the best thing I know to do,
more than writing lyrics and singing."

AI: Have any groups and DJs in France caught your attention? And what's the club scene like over there?

CH: I hate France, that´s why I left there six years ago. I love groups like Daft Punk, Air, Serge Gainsbourg, Indochine or Rita Mitsouko, but the French scene doesn´t interest me really as a DJ.

AI: So, what's a day in the life of Caroline Herve aka Miss Kittin?

CH: Bank, post office, cooking, washing machines, and interviews.

Thank you, Caroline!
